Orville Milton Nyland was born on July 24, 1912, to Olaus and Ida (Berg) in Friendship Township, Yellow Medicine County. He was baptized and confirmed at Spring Creek Lutheran Church south of Clarkfield, Minnesota. On November 15, 1941, he married Ruby Hanson who passed away February 12, 1958. They had a son Paul Wayne who passed away July 22, 1963. He married Susanna Rachie on October 18, 1959. She died November 6, 1986. Orville was a Farm laborer for many years. The last years he was employed by the city of Boyd, Minnesota. He died on Friday, March 1, 1991, at the Johnson Memorial Hospital in Dawson, Minnesota at the age of 78 years, 7 months, and 5 days. Orville is survived by: his mother, Ida (99 years) of the Clarkfield Care Center; step-daughter Susan and husband Jon Helgeson of Dawson; step-son Robert Rachie of Boyd; step-son-in-law Curtis Graue of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; step-grandchildren: Eric and Micheal Helgeson, Bradley, David, Mark, and Brian Graue, and Jonay Moots; four sisters, Alice and husband E.S. Anderson of Lennox, South Dakota, Amy and husband Velmin Larson of Clarkfield, Esther Donner of Montevideo, Minnesota, Agnes Borgendale of Clarkfield; one brother Olaf and wife Eleanor Nyland of Ottertail, Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Olaus in 1960, his wife Ruby, their son Paul, his wife Susanna, his step-daughter Lorraine Graue.
