Obituary

Orville A. Mork was born August 29, 1911, in Lac qui Parle County, Minnesota, to Albert and Minnie (Agre) Mork, was baptized at Our Savior's Lutheran Church of Baxter Township, Lac qui Parle County, by Rev. S.O. Rondestvedt and confirmed by Rev. G.S. Froiland. Following his graduation from Dawson High School, Orville attended Luther College, later becoming field manager for the Crowell Publishing Company, directing the company's operations in the Dakotas, Montana and Minnesota. On December 27, 1935, he married Gladys Lukken of Boyd, Minnesota. To them one daughter, Marlene Jo Ann, was born. Shortly after Marlene's birth, Orv moved his family to Clarkfield, joined the Clarkfield Lutheran Church and opened a Gamble Store which subsequently changed to Marshall Wells and finally to Our Own Hardware Store. By 1944 Orville's business interests expanded to REA and RTA power line construction, with his crews working in Minnesota, the Dakotas, Iowa, Montana, Nebraska, Wyoming, Kansas, Colorado, and Oklahoma. Then in 1949, Orville opened the Clarkfield Motor Sales Chevrolet Agency and from 1955 to 1957 operated a fleet of trucks for Western Dairy Company. Always active in civic affairs, Orville was elected to the Clarkfield Village Council in 1941, serving a three year term. In 1944 he was appointed mayor, later serving in 1950, as president of the Clarkfield Civic and Commerce Association. Culminating Orv's dedicated service to the community was his able chairmanship of the Clarkfield Lutheran Church Building Committee, a post he served faithfully. This well known Clarkfield business man passed away Wednesday morning, July 28, 1965, at Mount Sinai Hospital in Minneapolis, where he had been a patient for about ten days, at the age of 53 years. Preceding him in death were his father, Albert O. Mork, and a brother, Melburn. Mourning his death are his wife, Gladys, daughter, Marlene, son-in-law, Robert Campbell, grandson, John, mother, Mrs. Minnie Mork of Montevideo, Minnesota, and two brothers: Harold of Dawson, Minnesota, and Curtis of Salome, Arizona. As this time of loss seems immeasurable, our sorrow inconsolable. Yet we are the richer for having walked with him. His generosity, his capable leadership, his dynamic zest for life -- we shall remember him for all these things, yet we will remember him primarily as a self sacrificing friend. In Memory of MR. O.
