Obituary

Orville Stanley Kompelien (May 8, 1908 - July 12, 2011) Orville Stanley Kompelien was born May 8, 1908, to Louise (Hanson) & Theodore Kompelien in Normainia Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. He died July 12, 2011, at the age of 103 at the Minneota Manor. Orville was a life long member of St. Lucas Church in rural Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. He was baptized on June 7, 1908, and confirmed on July 22, 1922. Orville graduated from Minneota High School in 1927. In his younger years he was the church janitor; later was church secretary, and served for many years on the Cemetery Board. He and Glenda Arneson were married on October 22, 1937, at the home of the bride in Sandness Township. He farmed for many years in rural Cottonwood, starting with a team of horses and ending with a 4-wheel drive tractor. He saw many changes in farming in his lifetime. He served on many boards and was a director and treasurer of the Minnesota Valley Light & Power, Vallers Township supervisor, and Lyon County Township Officers' Board, to name a few. He is survived by his sons: Darris (Carol) of Cottonwood and Verlin (Rube) of Minneapolis; eight grandchildren: Jeff Lewis, Todd Lewis, Lori Fruin, Kristin Dolan, Renae Dorn, Darrin Kompelien, Brian Kompelien, and Tracy Kompelien; fourteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great- grandchild. He is also survived by sister Irene Erickson of Morris; and sisters-in-law: Inez Kompelien and Florence Arneson. Blessed be his memory. Memorials are preferred to the St. Lucas Cemetery Fund.
