Orville Irvin Berkvam, eldest son of Olander and Otilia (Haukos) Berkvam, was born in Stony Run Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, on April 6, 1909. He moved with his parents to their new home in Hazel Run Township on August 5, 1909, and lived there nearly all his life. He was baptized by Rev. J.J. Salhus, confirmed by Rev. A. Haugland and a lifelong member of the Bergen Church where he was a member of the Brotherhood and served on the church board. He graduated from Roadside rural school eighth grade and entered the University Agricultural School in St. Paul from which he graduated in March, 1927. Orville assisted his father on the farm and in 1937 took over the operation of the farm due to his father's illness. On April 13, 1941, he was united in marriage to Elois Irene Ernst and the couple moved onto the home place on March 2, 1943. Orville passed away on February 9, 1961, having reached the age of 51 years. He is survived by his wife; his mother; two brothers: Ardine of Clarkfield, Minnesota, and Lloyd of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; a number of cousins, nieces and nephews, uncles and aunts and other relatives. Preceding him in death was his only son, Irvin LeRoy, and his father. IN MEMORY OF ORVILLE I.
