IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Orvella Mae
Johnson
June 1, 1925 – January 16, 2006
Orvella Mae (Long) Johnson was born on June 1, 1925, to Orville and Vina (Granell) Long at Swede Prairie Township of Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. She was baptized in faith on April 4, 1935, in Hanley Falls, Minnesota, and confirmed in her faith in May 1940 at Spring Creek Lutheran Church of Swede Prairie Township. She attended elementary school at Hanley Falls District #1 and later she attended District #45. She graduated from Clarkfield High School, Clarkfield, Minnesota, in 1943. After high school, she worked at a cafe in Granite Falls, Minnesota. This is where she met Gordon Johnson and later went on to marry him on October 14, 1945, at Calvary Lutheran Church of Willmar, Minnesota. Gordon and Orvella spent 60 wonderful years together in marriage. To this union three children were born: Wayne Gordon, Brenda Faye, and Brian Allen. Orvella worked many jobs throughout her life and lived many places. She was a housekeeper, waitress, drove school bus, and was a substitute cook at the Hazel Run School. She worked as an inventory clerk in St. Cloud, Minnesota, in 1968 at Automotive Parts Headquarters. After returning back to Hazel Run, in 1974, she worked for Parker Hannifin (Plews) as a production control clerk and assistant computer operator until she retired in 1990. In life Orvella enjoyed many things. Going to the lake was of great pleasure. She took great pride in her beautiful flowers she grew with loving care both indoors and outdoors. She enjoyed African Violets, Geraniums, and her rose bushes. She loved to paint and often did paintings for many of her loved ones. She enjoyed sewing, reading, and baking. She was active in Hazel Run Lutheran church and the VFW Auxiliary in Granite Falls. She greatly enjoyed her granddaughters and often spent time with them. She attended their school, sports, and church activities and the favorite thing for them to do on the weekends was to go and see "Grandma Goodie." She always made her granddaughters feel very special. Later in life, Orvella lived in Montevideo, Minnesota, for one year at Copper Glen, and then became a resident at the Johnson Memorial Nursing Home in Dawson, Minnesota, along with her husband for five and one-half years, where Gordy remains today. Orvella passed away at Johnson Home on Monday, January 16, 2006, at the age of 80 years, 7 months, and 15 days. She is survived by her husband Gordy, son Wayne of Boyd, Minnesota, and daughter Brenda (Ken) Haskamp of Princeton, Minnesota.
