Mr. Orph McCoy, 92, died December 18, 1987 at the Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital, Montevideo, Minnesota, after a short illness. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 22, 1987, from the Clarkfield United Methodist Church, Clarkfield, Minnesota, with Pastor Wayne Shelton officiating. Organist was Mrs. Bea Forsberg and soloist was Mrs. Henry Hagg. Casket Bearers were grandsons Rodney Van Dorpe, Gary Olson, Kris, Patrick, LeLand, Jr. and Jason McCoy. Final Resting Place is the Clarkfield City Cemetery, Clarkfield, Minnesota. Military rites were by the American Legion J. Ben Johnson Post No. 169, Clarkfield, Minnesota. Orph was born in a log cabin on December 3, 1895 in Jasper County, Illinois, the son of Emerson and Ida (Holm) McCoy. He attended a country school until eighth grade graduation. He enlisted in the Illinois National Guard on May 22, 1917, and served in France during World War I. After his discharge from the Army, he married Era Lown on June 25, 1919 at Paris, Illinois. They moved to the Terril, Iowa area in 1921 and were involved in farming. In 1941 he bought his present farm north of Clarkfield where he has resided until his death. He was active in farming and gardening. Orph was a member of the United Methodist Church and was a member of the American Legion for 66 years. He is survived by his children, Leland of Clarkfield, Marie Cushman of Watson, Minnesota, Lucille Rose of Spencer, Iowa, Duane of Clarkfield, Delbert of Storm Lake, Iowa, Coleen Olson of Wood Lake, Minnesota, and Judy Van Dorpe of Fargo, North Dakota. He is also survived by one brother, Otto McCoy of Estherville, Iowa and 28 grandchildren and 45 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Era; two sons, Kenneth and Dale; two sisters; and one granddaughter. Arrangements by Lynner Funeral Home Since 1891 Clarkfield Minnesota
