Orley Thurman Miller was born on February 20, 1910, to Olaus and Emelia Hamre Miller on the Ole Miller farm homestead in Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. He was baptized by Rev. T.A. Haugen, confirmed by Rev. N.L. Otterstad and married by Rev. H.J. Madland and was a life long member of St. Lucas Lutheran Church. Orley attended grade school in District 2 and in Granite Falls, Minnesota. He graduated from High School in Clarkfield, Minnesota, in June, 1930. On June 12, 1937, he was united in marriage to Almira Hovdesven at the parsonage in Cottonwood, Minnesota. They farmed in Normania Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, until they retired in 1972. He was a faithful servant of the Lord in his church and community. He served on the church council and several years as President of the congregation. He was Chairman of the parsonage building committee. He was almost a life long member of the St. Lucas choir where he sang in the bass section. Orley was also a member of the Lion's Club, Country Golf Club of Cottonwood, Minnesota, Farmers Union and the DFL Party. Orley passed away at the age of 79 on Saturday, July 15, 1989, at the Weiner Memorial Nursing Home in Marshall, Minnesota. Orley is survived by his wife, Almira of Cottonwood; one brother, Wendell Miller of Clarkfield; many nieces and nephews and many relatives living in Norway. He is preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Barbara Hull; an infant brother; and two nephews.
