Obituary

Oren Lionel Christensen was born on February 2, 1910, in Normania Township to Herman and Thea (Swenson) Christensen. He was baptized at Spring Greek Church on February 27, 1910, by Pastor O.T. Storaasli. He was confirmed at Spring Greek Church on June 22, 1924, by Pastor O.M.O. Wee. He attended country school in District 23. At an early age he started farming with his brother, Hanford. On February 24, 1934, Oren and Minnie Haaland were married by Pastor G.M. Tollefson at a parsonage in Montevideo. To this union one child was born, Barbara Theressa. For several years Oren pitched for the Normania Baseball Team and later pitched kittenball. He enjoyed fishing, checkers and horseshoes. Oren was a life-long member of Spring Greek Lutheran Church and served on the Church Council and Cemetery Board. In fact, the Cemetery Association was organized on a fishing trip. Oren served on the Normania Town Board, the District 105 School Board, was a 4-H Leader, and was Treasurer of the Clarkfield Senior Citizens. Oren endured Parkinson's Disease for over nine years and was cared for by his wife. In April he entered the Clarkfield Care Center where he passed away on July 30, 1993, at the age of 83. Oren is survived by his wife, Minnie; his daughter, Barbara and her husband, Roger Larson, of Montevideo, Minnesota; by two grandchildren: Ronald Larson of West Lafayette, Indiana, and Mari Larson of Minneapolis, Minnesota; by a special nephew, Richard Craig of Minneapolis, Minnesota; by his brothers: Hanford, Herbert and Walter; and sisters: Irene Rodness and LuElla Stokke, all of Clarkfield; and Mayvis Etrheim of Renville; and by many nieces and nephews. Oren was preceded in death by his parents: Herman and Thea Christensen; and a brother: Clifford Christensen.
