Olson

Orand Herbert Olson was born on August 1, 1904, to parents Alfred and Minnie (Lundberg) Olson at Clarkfield, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed at the Clarkfield Norwegian Lutheran Church. Orand graduated from Clarkfield High School in 1922. Following graduation, he was employed at the Olson-Lund Garage in Clarkfield, working from 1922-1934. At this time, he began employment with Williams Hardware and Steel at Montevideo, Minnesota. This career lasted 38 years until his retirement in 1972. He worked 12 of those years as a salesman for the company in the Minnesota-South Dakota area. Orand was united in marriage to Muranda "Berdie" Larson on December 12, 1936. They made their home in Granite Falls, Minnesota. Berdie died on August 2, 1982. At this time, they had been married for 46 years. Orand was an honorary member of Sunset Lodge, No. 109A.F. and A.M., Royal Arch Masons Chapter No. 96, a fraternal member since 1925. He was the oldest living Shriner. Orand was very involved with his church, Granite Falls Lutheran. He was one of the original members of the Tuesday Men's Breakfast Group at DeToys. He served on the church council and was an honorary member of the Church Bible Study Group for 20 years. He also was a member of the Sons of Norway, Community Services Program (7 years) and was an active member of the Yellow Medicine County Museum, where he served on the Board of Directors for 20 years. Orand was the "Outstanding Senior Citizen for Yellow Medicine County" in 1989. He entered the Granite Manor in October of 1998. He passed away at the Granite Falls Municipal Hospital on Sunday evening, February 11, 2001, at the age of 96 years, 6 months, and 10 days. He is survived by a sister-in-law, Nora Larson of Hobart, Indiana and many loving friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and one brother-in-law, Harold Larson.
