Omar Berdell Tongen, age 86, of Clarkfield, Minnesota, passed away on Sunday, June 24th, 2012, at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo, Minnesota, surrounded by his loving family. Omar was born August 26, 1925, son of Jim and Inez (Isaacs) Tongen. He farmed with his father and brothers near Montevideo. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He was a member of the Hazel Run Lutheran Church for 60 years. Omar and Hazel Johnson were united in marriage on February 5, 1949, at Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church in Hanley Falls, Minnesota. They were the parents of eight children: Dianne, Danny, Duane, David, Darlene, Dennis, Douglas, and Danette. They farmed near Hazel Run for many years. He started driving truck and over the years he drove for Dawson Mills, Viessman Trucking and Crosby, before he retired with safe driving awards. Omar is survived by his wife Hazel and his children: Dianne and Don Sampson of Willmar, Minnesota, Danny of Tallahassee, Florida, Duane and Connie Tongen of Clarkfield, David Tongen of Clarkfield, Darlene and Doug Viessman of Mankato, Minnesota, Dennis Tongen of Montevideo, Douglas and Gail Tongen of Hutchinson, Minnesota, and Danette Kvistad of Burnsville, Minnesota. Omar and Hazel have 25 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren as well as many other family members and friends. Blessed be his memory. In Loving Memory of Omar B.
