Albert Hovdesven was born June 5, 1889, in Vallers Township, Lyon County, Minnesota, to Andrew and Julia (Hellickson) Hovdesven. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a life-long member of St. Lucas Lutheran Church. On September 30, 1911, he was united in marriage with Amanda Kise by Rev. T. H. Haugan at the bride's home in Cottonwood, Minnesota. They farmed in Vallers township until 1947 when they moved to Clarkfield, Minnesota. He was active in church and community affairs and served on various boards. Four children were born to them, all of whom survive: Almira (Mrs. Orley Miller) of Cottonwood; Josie (Mrs. Jewell Haaland) of Clarkfield, Floyd of Cottonwood, Inez (Mrs. Thurman Kompelien) of rural Cottonwood. He had resided at the Clarkfield Care Center since 1976 and died at the Clarkfield Community Hospital on March 5, 1984, at the age of 94 years. He is survived by his four children; one daughter-in-law; three sons-in-law; eight grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; one sister, Lillie Anderson; and one brother, Fred Anderson. He was preceded in death by his wife; two sisters, Mollie Reimstad and Allie Miller; and two grandsons, Burton Kompelien and Gary Haaland. Funeral services were held at St. Lucas Lutheran Church on Friday, March 9, 1984, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. John Christiansen officiating. Organist was Ann Stensrud and soloist, Connie Pehrson. Casket bearers were Sheldon Haaland, Leonard Kompelien, Wesley Hovdesven, John Hovdesven, Roger Tilberg, Michael Bergeland and Tom Kelley.
