IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Olivine (Martinson)
Haroldson
May 11, 1920 – January 31, 2012
Olivine C. (Martinson) Haroldson (May 11, 1920 ~ January 31, 2012) Olivine Haroldson was born May 11, 1920, to Oliver and Clara (Ellingson) Martinson in rural Hanley Falls, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Lucas Church in Normania Township. She graduated from Clarkfield High School in 1930. On November 21, 1940, she married Clarence Haroldson. Clarence and Olivine lovingly raised their three children, Carolyn, Lowell and Lyle while farming near Boyd. They later moved to Swede Prairie Township and farmed until their retirement. Olivine had been living at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo since 2001. Olivine was a wonderful cook, although she was far too modest to ever admit it. She was always ready with a pot of coffee and homemade baked goods. She would whip up 'emergency cookies' on the rare occasion she was caught with nothing else in the pantry. Clarence and Olivine loved gathering with family and friends. One can only imagine how many cups of coffee were served and enjoyed around their kitchen table. She started many a day by baking a 'batch' of bread. These 'batches' usually consisted of five or more loaves. That bread was THE BEST! Some of the other specialties we remember were her apple butter, angel food cake and all the canned goods she would put up each fall. To tell the truth, pretty much everything she made was special! Many of us have benefitted from the time we spent with her in the kitchen. She was willing to share her recipes and cooking tips, but mainly it was just a nice chance to be together. You could tell she liked that part the best . . . didn't we all. Olivine was handy with the sewing machine, too. No one could patch a pair of overalls like she could! Much of Olivine's homemaking was done without the conveniences that we take for granted today. She kept house with an old woodburning stove and without the 'luxury' of running water for many years. She never complained. She just really loved taking care of her family. She was such a sweet lady and so kind to everyone. We have been very blessed to have her in our lives. She has touched us in so many ways. Olivine passed away at Luther Haven on Tuesday, January 31, 2012, at the age of 91 years, 8 months and 20 days. She is survived by her sons: Lowell (Jan) and Lyle (Julie) Haroldson; her grandchildren: Cindy (Greg), Pam (Keith), Kirsten (Scott), Kara, Aaron and Adam; and great grandchildren: Jacob, Kennedy, Peter and Sam. She is also survived by her sisters: Eileen Pyle and Doris Brovold; brothers: Russell (Erna) and John Martinson; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Clarence, daughter Carolyn and infant son.
