Oline Sofia Haugen Knutson was born on a farm in Lisbon Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, on February 24, 1885, the daughter of Sigurd and Signe (Solberg) Haugen. She was baptized by Rev. Ole Lokensgard in the Bergen Church and confirmed by Rev. Halvor Fjelstad in October, 1900. She attended grade and parochial school in District 26 and then went on to Normal School at Madison from which she graduated in 1906. She taught grade school and parochial school until 1910. On October 26, 1910, she was united in marriage to Bert Knutson of Lake Preston, South Dakota. They lived several years on his father's farm. Two children were born to this union: Muriel (Mrs. Martin Moffat) of St. Paul, Minnesota, and Sidney of Portland, Oregon. In 1916, the Knutsons purchased her father's farm and they returned to Lisbon Township. She then joined the Bergen Church and was again active in church work and ladies aid until the death of her husband, February 20, 1936. Mrs. Knutson spent the summers on her farm and the winters with her daughter and family, the Martin Moffats of St. Paul, until her daughter's death November 23, 1957. The past year she spent with her son, Sidney, at Portland, Oregon. She returned home on Saturday, May 13, 1961, and visited her neighbors and friends. She entered the Clarkfield Hospital May 17, 1961, and passed away June 10, 1961, at the age of 76 years. She leaves to mourn her passing, her son, Sidney; son-in-law, Martin Moffat of St. Paul; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren of St. Paul; three brothers: Knute of Hazel Run, Minnesota, Selmer of St. Paul, and Conrad of Clarkfield. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bert; her daughter, Muriel; her parents; three sisters and one brother. IN MEMORY OF MRS. LENA S.
