Olga Fjerkenstad was born August 19, 1892, to Reier and Lena (Hermanson) Grefsrud. She was baptized and confirmed and a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Boyd, Minnesota. December 16, 1909, she was united in marriage to John Fjerkenstad. They farmed near Boyd until the death of her husband in 1955. The following year she moved to Boyd where she resided until she moved to Brookside Manor of Montevideo, Minnesota, in 1976. August 8, 1985, she entered Johnson Memorial Nursing Home in Dawson, Minnesota, where she lived until the time of her death. Olga passed away Sunday, August 16, 1989 at the Johnson Memorial Home at the age of 96. She is survived by three sons, Joseph, Ernest and Melburne of rural Boyd; four daughters, Margaret Lukken, Arlene (Mrs. Vergil) Hegna of Montevideo; Ruby (Mrs. Arnold) Wiegers of Dawson and Ruth (Mrs. Arvin) Hanson of Boyd; twenty-seven grandchildren; thirty-nine great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; and two sister-in-laws, Anna Hveem of Clarkfield Care Center and Elsa Peterson of Rapid City, South Dakota. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, stepfather and three sons, Palmer, Julian and one infant son. She always enjoyed baking and sharing it with others, and she enjoyed working with flowers. She will always live in our memories as a devoted, kind and loving mother, grandmother and friend.
