(Lund) Payne Payne
September 2, 1884 – April 20, 1911
Oleva Cecelia Lund Payne was born September 2, 1884, at Thor, Iowa. She was the oldest of eleven children born to Samson and Hannah Lund. She was baptized into Christ by Rev. Sauer and confirmed in the Lutheran faith by Rev. Gregerson. She came to Minnesota with her family in March, 1901. They settled in Tyro Township where she resided until her death. On April 20, 1911, she was united in marriage to Otis Payne at the Clarkfield Norwegian Lutheran Church by Rev. O.T. Storaasli. To this union four children were born: Geneva (Mrs. Selmer Emblem), Sheridan, Aletta (Mrs. Alfred West) and Orville. She attended church services regularly during her entire life. She was an active member of Tyro Ladies Aid and later the Clarkfield Ladies Aid. She had no other purpose in life but to obey and serve God. On November 26, 1953, she suffered a heart attack at the State Hospital at St. Peter, Minnesota, where she was a patient. The next day, on November 27, 1953, at 11:45 p.m. she passed peacefully on. Her age: 69 years, two months and 25 days. She was preceded in death by her father and two brothers: George and Edwin Lund. She is survived by her husband, Otis, and four children: Geneva, Sheridan, Aletta of Clarkfield, and Orville of Minneapolis; two daughters-in-law: Mrs. Sheridan Payne and Mrs. Orville Payne; four grandchildren: Gregory and Gloria Payne, and Julianna and Marlene West; her aged mother, three sisters: Mrs. Sarah Haaland and Mrs. Oscar Miller of Clarkfield and Mrs. Willis Johnson of Chester, Iowa; five brothers: Clarence and Joseph of Clarkfield, Hendrick of Canby, Minnesota, Peder of Wausau, Wisconsin, and Wilhelm of St. Peter, Minnesota.
