Ole Vastrand was born November 2, 1868, in Aalesund, Norway, the son of Ole and Annie Ingeborg (Riise) Vanstrand. He was baptized and confirmed in Borgend Kirke near Aalesund. He immigrated to America at the age of 23 years and settled in Lyon County near Cottonwood, Minnesota, where he worked as a carpenter and contractor until he retired in 1950. He entered the Clarkfield Nursing Home in July of 1960, where he passed away on March 16, 1962, at the age of 93 years. Preceding him in death were his parents; three brothers: Jacob, Knute and Edward; and two sisters: Ingeborg and Anna. Surviving are a niece, Mrs. R.W. Nelson of Thief River Falls, Minnesota, and a nephew, Oluf C. Hovde of Duluth, Minnesota.
