Ole Hoel, the oldest of nine children of Lars and Mathea (Anderson) Hoel, was born in Norway, October 5, 1876. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith, confirmed by the late Rev. Carl Moen and has been a member of the Clarkfield Lutheran Church. In 1881, he, with his parents, a sister and a brother, came to America and settled in Minnesota near Clarkfield. Three years later the family moved to Tyro Township to their farm now owned by Heimer Johnson. On the farm he spent most of his youth helping his parents in the early pioneer days. He received his education at the local schools and the Windom Institute. For a number of years he was a resident of Granite Falls. Four years ago, due to failing health, he entered the Clarkfield Nursing Home. He departed this life on Saturday, February 29, 1964, at the age of 87 years. Three sisters and two brothers survive him: Marie (Mrs. Andrew Hanson) of Calgary, Canada, Anna Kjos of Seattle, Washington, Martha Jorgenson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Adolph and Alvin of Clarkfield, and many nieces and nephews and other relatives. His parents, two sisters and one brother preceded him in death.
