Olaus Nyland was born in Toten, Norway, on November 2, 1886, of the parents Ole Jacob and Martha Marie (Markestad) Nyland. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Olaus came to the United States in 1905 at the age of 18 and stayed at the Gust Sandager home. He later homesteaded in South Dakota for a few years and then came back to Hazel Run, Minnesota On April 27, 1911, he was united in marriage to Ida Berg. They resided for 24 years on a farm south of Clarkfield. They were members of the Spring Creek church where he served on the board for several years. He became ill in January, 1959 and passed away January 17, 1960, at the Granite Falls Hospital at the age of 73 years. Surviving are his wife and six children, namely: Orville of Granite Falls, Minnesota, Alice (Mrs. Arvie Severson) of Hazel Run, Minnesota, Amy (Mrs. Velmin Larson) of Boyd, Minnesota, Esther (Mrs. Ray Chadwell) of Granite Falls, Minnesota, Olaf of Brewster, Minnesota, and Agnes (Mrs. Orville Borgendale) of Boyd, Minnesota. He also leaves 14 grandchildren, three great grandchildren and his brother, Peter and a niece, Olga, both in Norway. He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandchild. Olaus was a kind and loving father and is sadly missed by his family. Blessed be his memory.
