Mr. Olaus Miller was born on February 21, 1879, the son of Ole and Mathia (Jacobson) Miller, in Normania Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, where he resided until his retirement when he and his wife moved to Cottonwood, Minnesota, in 1942. He was baptized by Rev. Knute Thorstenson, confirmed and was a lifetime member of the St. Lucas congregation. He served as trustee for many years and took an active part in church work. Mr. Miller was a conscientious community worker. He served on the Yellow Medicine County Board of Commissioners, on his township board, was a director of the Cottonwood Co-op Oil Company and was active in farm organization work. On September 23, 1906, he was united in marriage to Emelia Hamre of the Cottonwood community, by Rev. M. Romstad. They moved to the Miller homestead where they lived until they purchased the Pete Undem farm. Mr. and Mrs. Miller became the parents of three children, all of whom survive: Orley and Wendell, residing in Normania Township, and Barbara (Mrs. Edward C. Hull) of Madison, Minnesota. Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. Annette Reishus of Cottonwood; one brother, Hans, of Cottonwood; seven grandchildren: Donna, Lee Robert and Carol Hull and Ann, Maurice and Donald Miller. He leaves to mourn his departure several nieces, nephews and a host of friends. His wife, three brothers and one sister preceded him in death.
