Olaus "Lewis" Cornelius Kjos was born on August 5, 1874, on the Kjos Homestead in Friendship Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, son of Gunder and Marie Kjos. Lewis grew to manhood in this community and was baptized in the Lutheran faith and confirmed in the Clarkfield Evangelical Lutheran Church on June 4, 1893, by Rev. Carl Moen. On January 16, 1919, he married Mathilda Luella Sather to which union three children were born. Mr. Kjos was engaged in farming most of his life in Friendship Township. In 1939 he retired and moved to Clarkfield. Later the family moved to Olivia, Minnesota, where they lived until Mr. Kjos suffered his first stroke, two years ago from which he never recovered. He passed away on Thursday, April 12, 1951, at 10:45 p.m. at the Medicine Lake Mission Home of Minneapolis, at the age of 76 years, 8 months, and 14 days. He leaves to mourn his wife, Mathilda; three sons: Leon of Saint Paul, Roy of Palo Alto, California, and Paul of Willmar, Minnesota; three daughters-in-law; five grandchildren; one sister, Stina Kittelson of Clarkfield; three brothers: Oscar of Clarkfield, Fred of Boyd, and Anton of Granite Falls.
