Olai Sivert Stokke slept peacefully away at his home in Clarkfield, Friday evening, April 2, 1965. He had reached the age of 90 years. He was born on July 22, 1874, in Stavanger, Norway, the son of Sivert and Bertha (Kalberg) Stokke. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. In April of 1882, he, together with his parents, brothers and sisters immigrated to America and settled in Normania Township where they began farming. He was united in marriage to Helena Christopherson. To this union, eight children were born: Bernard, Hannah, Harry, Clara (Mrs. Clifford Christensen), Selmer, Helen (Mrs. Noren Albeck), Carl and Eleanora (Mrs. John Nicolai). In 1947 he retired from farming and moved to his home in Clarkfield. He was blessed with unusually good health and contentment. Preceding him in death were his wife in 1954; and infant daughter, Hannah, in 1907; and two sons: Bernard in 1956 and Selmer in 1946. He leaves to mourn his passing his children; his brothers: Nels of Clarkfield, Theodore of Granite Falls, Minnesota; his sister, Mrs. Rachel Swalstad of Granite Falls, Minnesota; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
