Olaf Olson was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, February 28, 1878, and passed away December 31, 1953, aged 75 years, 10 months and three days. He was the son of Gullick and Ragnhild Olson, and was one of a family of ten children. Only two survive him, namely, one sister, Lena Graeber, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, and Charley Olson of Sacred Heart, Minnesota. On April 3, 1901, he was united in marriage to Tobena Barstad and lived at Sioux Rapids until 1913, when they moved to southern Minnesota. Here they engaged in farming. They also lived on farms near Montevideo, Minnesota, and southwest of Clarkfield before moving to Clarkfield in 1943. Here they made their home on Oscar Street until the death of both, Mrs. Olson July 17, 1953, and Mr. Olson December 31, 1953. Three sons also preceded him in death. Eleven children were born to this union. Those surviving are Andrew, Albert, Omer, Alice (Mrs. Lewis Ketelson) and Ruth (Mrs. Louis Enevoldson) of Montevideo, Minnesota, Julius of Granite Falls, Minnesota, Carl of Eagle Bend, Minnesota, and Lars of Williams, Minnesota. There are 34 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. The many children and grandchildren pay tribute to "a kind father, who will be greatly missed."
