Olaf Maltrud was born in Stony Run Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, on April 3, 1887, to David and Marie (Larson) Maltrud. He was baptized into the Lutheran faith by Rev. Fjelstad. He attended school in District No. 14 and the Agricultural School in St. Paul, Minnesota. A lifelong member of Bergen Church, Mr. Maltrud lived and farmed in this community until 1946 when he retired. For the past six years he lived at the Manor in Granite Falls, Minnesota. His eyesight had been gradually failing for a few years until he was almost totally blind. Mr. Maltrud passed away at the Granite Falls Hospital on March 2, 1973, at the age of 85 years. Survivors are one sister, Helen Wolsund, and one nephew, Douglas Nelson. Preceding him in death were his parents, one sister, Bertha (Mrs. John Nelson); and one niece, Margaret (Mrs. Charles Rachie.)
