Obituary

Olaf Gustav Larson was born May 14, 1918, in Tyro Township of Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, to Carl Axel and Emma (Knutson) Larson. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a longtime member of the Augustana Lutheran Church. Olaf was united in marriage to Grace Weeks on September 19, 1936. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary last year. They were blessed with three children: Allen Keith, Marlys LaMay Haughie and Georgia Carol Edmunds. He was especially proud of them and their achievements. Olaf died on January 25, 2002, at the Clarkfield Care Center at the age of 83 years, 8 months and 10 days. A lifelong resident of Clarkfield, Minnesota, he farmed, shelled corn, and erected grain bins for many years. He excelled in pitching horseshoes and bowling; but most of all, he loved to hunt and fish. (If there are walleyes or fox in heaven, let them beware!) For nearly 30 years Grace joined him in an annual trip to Montana to hunt with John and Barbara Krause. Stories about the mountains, great shots, and missed shots were many. It is also reported that Olaf considered himself a fine cribbage player. However, there are quite a few folks in town, including his wife Grace, who confirm that he was known to exaggerate on more than one occasion. We all loved his sense of humor. Olaf is survived by his wife Grace; son Allen and Carol of Sanibel, Florida; daughter Marlys and Glenn Haughie of Naples, Florida; and daughter Georgia and Keith Edmunds of Clarkfield. He is also survived by ten grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; two sisters: Edith Berg and Dorothy Nikoliasen; and two sisters-in-law: Amy and Charlotte Larson. He was preceded in death by his parents; six sisters: Ellen, Esther, Grace, Ruth, Ruby, and Gladys; three brothers: Emil, Lloyd, and Velmin; one grandson Patrick Haughie; and one great granddaughter Abigail Meiusi. Blessed be his memory.
