Odella Aakvik was born September 9, 1911, in rural Hazel Run, Minnesota, to Olai and Gunhild (Johnson) Gautefall. She was baptized September 29, 1911, at Hazel Run. On May 14th, 1928 she was confirmed at the Hazel Run Lutheran Church. She attended country school in District # 79. Odella and Melvin Aakvik were united in marriage on June 28, 1940, at Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church by Rev. Alf Jorgenson. She enjoyed her ALCW circle meetings, crocheting, gardening and many arts and crafts. Odella had been in failing health for some time. She passed away at the Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital on Tuesday May 26, 1987, at the age of 75 years. She is survived by her husband Melvin and one brother Edgar both of Hanley Falls, Minnesota; and two sisters Hilma, Mrs. Bert Garrels of Balaton, Minnesota, and Geneva Herberg of Redwood Falls, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters: Gena Leupke and Erva Folstad.
