(Cornelius) Olien
March 29, 1896 – February 1, 1991
Nicoline Henrietta Cornelius was born on March 29, 1896, in Lisbon Township to Peder and Maren Cornelius. She was baptized and confirmed in the Bergen Lutheran Church, rural Granite Falls, Minnesota. She attended rural school in Lisbon township and high school in Madison, Minnesota. On September 6, 1914, she was united in marriage to Andrew Olien. They farmed for several years in the Sebeka and Finlayson communities. In 1921 they moved to a farm south of Clarkfield, Minnesota, where they lived until 1953 when they moved to Waseca, Minnesota. They returned to Clarkfield in 1964. She was a member of Clarkfield Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid. She was also a member of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed gardening and growing flowers. Baking and decorating wedding and birthday cakes was a specialty of hers for many years. She also liked to knit, crochet, and do embroidery work. Nicoline passed away at the Clarkfield Care Center on Friday, February 1, 1991, at the age of 94 years. She is survived by her three children, Lyle and wife, Inger of Montevideo, Minnesota, Mary Ann and husband John Josephson of Minneota, Minnesota, and Clarice Olien of Minneapolis, Minnesota. She is, also, survived by four grandchildren, Norma Olien Brandt, Richard Josephson, Janet Olien Nieland, and Karen Josephson Theis; six great grandchildren; and one sister, Minnie Thompson of the Retirement Center at Frazee, Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew in 1968, her parents, six brothers and five sisters. Blessed be her memory.
