Nicholas Peter Walters June 19, 1922 ~ February 20, 2013 Nicholas Peter Walters was born in Schankweiler, Germany, on June 19, 1922, to parents Peter and Magdelena (Welter) Horsch. He came to America when he was 16 years old. He was raised by Mr. and Mrs. Otto Dahn, his uncle and aunt, of Canby, Minnesota. He attended school at Coll's Corner for two years. Nick served two years in the United States Army and received an honorable discharge on December 9, 1946, at Camp Gruber, Oklahoma. Nicholas and Bernice Irene Eide were married on June 3, 1944. He was baptized and confirmed by Rev. A.W. Fuerstenau in 1946 of St. Johns Lutheran Church of Omro. Nick and Bernice were the parents of Michael David, Ray John, Steven Nicholas, infant daughter Bernice (who passed away in 1946) and son David (who passed away in 1956). The Walters farmed in Omro Township their entire married life. Nick remained on the farm until October 2012 when he moved to Hill Street Apartments in Marshall. He would return to the farm daily while his health permitted. Nick loved the land! He loved farming, gardening, his animals and especially loved picking apples. He passed away on Wednesday, February 20, 2013, at Avera Regional Medical Center at the age of 90 years and eight months. He is survived by son, Michael (Peggy) Walters of Worthington, Minnesota, and two daughters-in- law: Mary Walters of Bullhead City, Arizona, and Karla Walters of Clarkfield, Minnesota. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Marie Fetterley and grandchildren: Michele (Dan) Machado, Melisa Walters, Ann (Marko) Vallimaa, Kristel (Dave) Girgen, Kelly (Jason) Nurmi and Dayna (Gary) Gunderson and great-grandchildren: Sarah Machado, Tessa Machado, Eli Vallimaa, Cayla Vallimaa, Mikaylee Gunderson and Kaden Girgen. He was preceded in death by his two children as infants, Bernice and David; son, Steve (1997); wife Bernice (2000) and son Ray (2011). Blessed be his memory. In Loving Memory of Nicholas P.
