Nels Wesley
Swanson
November 1, 1924 – January 5, 1977
Wesley Swanson was born November 1, 1924, in Storm Lake, Iowa. At the age of five, he moved with his family to Renville, Minnesota, where he attended school. He remained there until he joined the United States Navy during World War II. After the war he moved to Hayfield, Minnesota, where he worked as a depot agent-telegrapher with Great Western Railroad. It was during this time that he met his wife Ardy. They were joined in marriage on June 20, 1948. In 1952 Wes, Ardy and Charles moved to a farm near Granite Falls, Minnesota, where he farmed until 1959 when he worked his way into the insurance business in and around Granite Falls, Clarkfield and the surrounding area. In 1969 the family, including Charles, Gregory, Kristen and Keith, moved to Clarkfield where he continued his insurance business and added real estate and income tax service. For the past six years, Wes has been bothered by heart trouble. He had two heart attacks and was plagued by minor setbacks prior to his death on January 5, 1977, at age 52. Wes is survived by his wife, Ardy; his four children: Charles of Boyd, Gregory of Marshall, and their wives, Wilma and Hope, and Kristen and Keith who are at home in Clarkfield; two grandchildren, Melissa and Chad; a sister, Elvie Hutton, of Brandon, Manitoba; five nieces and nephews. Preceding Wes in death were his parents, Nels and Nora Swanson, and brother Carl. Blessed be his memory!
