Peterson
May 9, 1896 – January 30, 1984
Nels Arthur Peterson was born in Sandnes Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, to Peter and Lella (Swanberg) Peterson on May 9, 1896. He was baptized in the Hanley Falls Town Hall by Rev. J.S. Strand and confirmed in the Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church of Hanley Falls by Rev. Lokensguard. Nels helped with the home farm and attended Velde District Country School, and later Hanley Falls School, until entering the military service in 1918. He has spent the last several years in the St. Cloud Veterans Hospital, where he passed away on January 30, 1984. Nels is survived by his sister, Ida (Mrs. Gustaf) Benson of St. Michael, Minnesota, several nephews and one neice. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Bennie, Eddy, and Arvie; and one sister, Emily, (Mrs. Oscar) Lindquist. Funeral Services were held Friday February 3, 1984, at 2:00 p.m. from the Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church in Hanley Falls, Minnesota, with Pastor H. Norman Schey officiating. Organist was Mrs. Colleen Hewitt with solo selections by Mrs. Mavis Ellingson. Final Resting Place is the East Yellow Medicine Lutheran Cemetery. Casket Bearers were Merlin, Earle, and Arlan Gustafson, James Eye, Myron Martin, and Gene Oftedahl. The Military Rites were by the American Legion Post #127, Hanley Falls, Minnesota.
