Nels A. Morland was born January 1, 1889, in Bergen, Norway, to parents Nels and Elizabeth (Lee) Morlandsto. He was baptized and confirmed in Norway and came to the United States in 1907. He came to his uncle Andrew Lee at Clarkfield, Minnesota. He spent several years working on farms in the area and also spent some time as a carpenter. Nels married Lena Blaness on March 29, 1916, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge, Iowa. This union was blessed with six children, four daughters and two sons. They moved to the Clarkfield area where Nels spent the rest of his life. He farmed until he retired in 1956 and then moved into Clarkfield. He lived an active life and passed away December 7, 1979 at the Clarkfield Care Center reaching the age of 90 years and 11 months. He is survived by daughter, Mrs. Floyd (Eleanor) Hovdesven of Cottonwood, Minnesota; son, Arden Morland of Clarkfield; daughter, Mrs. Bruce (Norma) Frank of Le Sueur, Minnesota; daughter, Mrs. Harold (Delores) Sievers of Los Alamitos, California; son, Harry E. Morland of Marshall, Minnesota; twenty-three grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; a sister and two brothers in Norway. He was preceded in death by wife, Lena; daughter, Gladys Frank; parents, one sister and two brothers. He will be sadly missed by his family. Blessed be his memory! IN MEMORY OF NELS A.
