Obituary

Myrtle Jasefa Haaland, 80, of Clarkfield, Minnesota, died Saturday, October 19, 1985, at the Sunwood Care Center in Redwood Falls, Minnesota. Services were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, October 22, 1985, at the Spring Creek Lutheran Church of Normania Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, with Pastor William Klavetter officiating. The organist was Ella Larson with vocal music by Mrs. Helen Leasman. Honorary Casket Bearers were Gustav Haaland, Harlan Satre, Walter Oraas, Emil West, Owen Dotseth and Alvin Orrass Active Casket Bearers were Virgil Beecher, LeRoy Jans, Walter and Floyd Christensen, Karl Haaland and Telford Berg. Final Resting Place is the Spring Creek Church Cemetery, Normania Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. She was born May 24, 1905, on a farm in Tyro Township to Ole and Anna (Pierson) Rekkedahl. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith at the Swede Home Lutheran Church. On March 11, 1934, she married Kenneth Christensen. They had two children, Marquita and Kaye. After the death of her husband on October 24, 1948, she married Gerhard Haaland on November 2, 1950. About five years ago she suffered a stroke and broke a hip. She was hospitalized for quite some time. Later she suffered a stroke and moved to the Clarkfield Care Center, where she lived for three years. She was transferred to the Sunwood Care Center in Redwood Falls where she died. She is survived by husband, Gerhard; daughter, Marquita Banks of Lynd, Minnesota; son, Kaye Christensen of Hazel Run, Minnesota; son-in-law, Perry Banks; daughter-in-law, Marlys Christensen; granddaughters, Sarah Banks and Susan Christensen; five grandsons, Richard and his wife Leslie, Bradley Christensen, Charles, Jason and Aaron Banks; sister, Orda (Mrs. Donald) Warner of Pueblo, Colorado; brothers, Harvey of Redwood Falls and Arbey of Glenwood, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by first husband, Kenneth; sisters, Edith and Alvida; brother, Orvin and half-brothers, Arthur and Selmer Olsen.
