Obituary

Myrtle Alvira Bothun was born August 12, 1913, in Wang Township of Renville County, Minnesota, to parents Theodore and Anna (Berquist) Bothun. She was baptized at Hawk Creek Lutheran Church near Sacred Heart, Minnesota, on September 7, 1913. Myrtle and Thomas A. Lecy were married at the Granite Falls Parsonage, Granite Falls, Minnesota, on November 14, 1935. They were the parents of four children: Marlene, LaVerle, Gene, and DelRay. Myrtle enjoyed being a homemaker and helping with the farm. She was a faithful member of St. Lucas Lutheran Church, where she was involved in the Ladies Aid. She and Tom spent many years camping and traveling. They loved going to Texas for the winter and all the bingo, dancing, and crafts. Myrtle passed away at the Clarkfield Care Center, Clarkfield, Minnesota, on Tuesday evening, October 29, 2002, at the age of 89 years, 2 months and 17 days. She is survived by her children: Marlene (and Claude) Green of Long Prairie, Minnesota, LaVerle (and David) Albu of Wabasso, Minnesota, Gene (and Toni) of Marshall, Minnesota, and DelRay (and Karen) of Staples, Minnesota. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and one sister, Merville. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Thomas in 2001; five sisters; two brothers; one grandson-in-law; three infant grandchildren; four brothers-in-law; and one sister-in-law. "Reflections on Our Mom" Myrtle enjoyed being with her family at all times. Her love of and care of her children and grandchildren could easily be used as the definition of a mother and a grandmother in the dictionary. Myrtle and Thomas enjoyed their life as "Snowbirds" for many years. They spent their winters in Texas, and mom looked forward to every trip to the south. She enjoyed the activities available to them, and she just loved to dance. One of Myrtle's favorite times was when she could play games with the family. She enjoyed playing Yahtzee, 750, Dominos, and other games . . . always seeming to win when playing with the grandchildren, while hoping that they would. In the good years, Myrtle and Thomas enjoyed camping, being able to travel to all states except Alaska and Hawaii. In her later years, Myrtle had to travel a much more difficult pathway. We remember her as she was: a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, neighbor and friend. We will truly miss her, but she is now free.
