Mike was born on February 2, 1917, in Porter, Minnesota, to Albert and Emma (Nelson) Martin. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. On January 1, 1941, he married Hazel Allchin at the Granite Falls Parsonage by Pastor O.J. Erickson. To this union three children were born: Kay, Alan and Arlen. Mike farmed around the Hanley Falls area until his retirement in 1982. At that time they moved to Hanley Falls. He was a member of the Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church, served on the church council and past director of the Hanley Falls Farmers Elevator. He is survived by his wife, Hazel; daughter Kay and husband David Bestland of Granite Falls; sons Alan and wife Kathy of Cottonwood, and Arlen of Hazel Run; four grandchildren, Brenda and Bruce Bestland, Kelly and Shannon Martin; brothers, Lloyd and wife Martha of Green Isle, Wilfred and wife Margaret of Hazel Run, Marvin and wife Eleanor of Van Couver, Washington, Ordell and wife Virginia of Park Rapids, Minnesota, sister, Phyllis and husband Orville Hveem of Piedmont, South Dakota; sister-in-law, Mildred Martin, Meadowland, Minnesota; brother-in-law, Archie and wife Joyce Allchin of Montevideo, Minnesota; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by parents, infant grandson, infant brother, brother Allard and sister Pauline.
