Obituary

Myrna Alvera (Reishus) Broughton (May 19, 1912 ~ October 27, 2010) Myrna Alvera (Reishus) Broughton died on Wednesday, October 27, 2010, at the Three Links Care Center in Northfield, Minnesota. Myrna was born May 19, 1912, to Theodore and Agnes (Wangsness) Reishus on their farm in Normania Township, rural Cottonwood, Minnesota. A graduate of Cottonwood High School, Myrna later married Henry E. Broughton on October 18, 1935. Henry soon took over the farm from Theodore and Agnes, and together with Myrna, they raised their two sons Lynn and Warren. Myrna and Henry were lifelong members of St. Lucas Lutheran Church. Myrna spent many years teaching Sunday School, assisting with Christmas programs, singing in the choir, and serving in various capacities with the women of the church. She always enjoyed a good book, and for a time, wrote a column in the Cottonwood Current newspaper featuring highlights from the Senior Center. In their later years Myrna and Henry moved into Cottonwood, but when the time was right, they chose to move to an independent living facility in Granite Falls, Minnesota. When Henry's health deteriorated, they moved to an assisted living facility, May Creek Lodge in Walker, Minnesota. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary there in Walker. In June, 2010, Myrna moved from Walker to Northfield to be near her son, Warren. Myrna was preceded in death by her parents, husband Henry, son Lynn and his wife Mary Jaye. She is survived by son Warren (Karen) of Northfield, Minnesota; grandchildren: Karl (Maija) Braaten of Birmingham, Alabama, Sonja Braaten (Owen Molloy) of Cleveland, Ohio, Jon (Sandy) Broughton of Ankeny, Iowa, Sara (Scott) Peelman of Pinehurst, North Carolina, Susan (John) Orth of Detroit, Michigan, and Bill Birjkovff of Chattanooga, Tennessee. She is also survived by great grandchildren: Elizabeth and David Broughton, Wesley Birjkovff, Kayla and Joseph Peelman and Erick Braaten; a niece and nephews: Ihleen (Gary) Williams, Arlen (Juli) Severson, David (Zan) Severson, Paul (Marion) Wegener and Calvin (Alice) Broughton.
