Murl Jerome Isaacs was born on May 4, 1905, in Normania Township of Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. His parents were Peter L. and Anna (Stevens) Isaacs. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, rural Hazel Run, Minnesota. He attended school in the District No. 45 School. Murl was engaged in farming during his working years. On December 25, 1929, he was united in marriage to Evalyn Dotseth, by Rev. J. E. H. Akre. To this union the following children were born: Elwood (Linda) Isaacs, Bartlesville, Oklahoma; Elaine (Gaylen) Cornelius, Clarkfield; Peter Lowell (deceased); Joanne (Arvid) Melbostad, Clarkfield; Sharon (Robert) Fischer, Fridley, Minnesota; Dean (Nona) Isaacs, Oregon City, Oregon; Dale (Addie) Isaacs, Woodinville, Washington. After retiring he and Evalyn moved into Hazel Run where they continued to live until they moved to the Valhalla Apartments in Clarkfield, Minnesota, in October 1994. He was active in the community, serving as a Deacon of the Hazel Run Lutheran Church, was an officer and a member of the Farmers Union and was a member of the Hazel Run Male Chorus. Murl passed away on Sunday, August 3, 1997, at the Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital, Montevideo, Minnesota, at the age of 92 years, 2 months, and 30 days. He is survived by his wife of 67 1/2 years; his children; 17 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren; daughter-in-law Carol Davy; sisters: Gladys Dotseth, Genevieve LeCount, and Myrtle Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; son Peter Lowell; three brothers: Alvin and Ernest Isaacs, and Reed Stevens; two sisters: Inez Tongen and Cyantha Tongen; one grandchild and one great grandchild.
