Obituary

Minnie Schlee Eggen Rogge was born to Ludwig and Wilhelmina (Tomes) Schlee on April 19, 1893, near Adair, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, and spent her younger years near Adair. Her marriage to Albert Eggen was terminated after five years when he passed away during the flu epidemic in 1918. She was then a young widow with two small children: Leonard and Doris. In 1921 she married Emil Rogge, a widower who had a daughter, Lucille. A son, Wayne was born to this union. They lived on the Rogge farm near Boyd, Minnesota, for 30 years before they moved to Granite Falls, Minnesota, where she worked at the hospital. After the demise of Emil Rogge, she lived in Clarkfield, Minnesota, and continued to do hospital work there, and also in Minneapolis, Minnesota, for a short time. In 1954, she and Ed Rogge were married and continued to live in Clarkfield. After Ed passed away, Minnie moved to the Valhalla Apartments. After a lingering illness, Minnie was admitted to the Clarkfield Hospital where she remained five weeks until her passing on May 13, 1980, at the age of 87 years. Minnie is survived by her children: Lucille and Philip Elmquist, Leonard and Rose Eggen, Doris and Joe Fjerkenstad, Wayne and Marion Rogge; eight grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren. Also surviving are Ed's children: Leslie Rogge, Bernice Hanson, Betty Anderson and Harriet Pfoser. Mrs. Rogge was a very special person. She bore her burdens patiently. The love and kindness shown her by many people indicated that everyone who knew her loved her. The following verse was chosen by our Mother and tells how she wished to be remembered. AFTER GLOW I'd like the memory of me to be a happy one. I'd like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done. I'd like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways, Of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days. I'd like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun Of happy memories that I leave when life is done. IN MEMORY OF MRS. MINNIE D.
