Minnie Amelia (Leroen) Vien was born on June 4, 1904, in Friendship Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, to parents Ole and Johanna (Soriede) Leroen. She was baptized on July 10, 1904, at the Clarkfield Norwegian Evangelical Lutheran Church and later confirmed. Her parents passed away when she was five years old and she was raised by T.T. and Emma Anderson of Clarkfield. Minnie attended the Clarkfield Public Schools. Minnie married Roy A. Vien on March 19, 1925. This marriage was blessed with two children: Dennis and Elene. Roy and Minnie lived in Normania Township and the Cottonwood Area where they farmed, until they moved to Cottonwood and retired. She was a past president of the St. Lucas Ladies Aid and Silo (now Christ) Lutheran Church. She also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #503. Minnie had been a resident of the Clarkfield Care Center since 1994. She passed away at the Granite Falls Hospital on Friday, March 26, 1999, at the age of 94 years, 9 months, and 23 days. She is survived by her children Dennis (and Gloria) Vien of Cottonwood and Elene (and Glenn) Hegna of Bird Island. She is also survived by grandchildren David and Doreen DeVos, David and Trudy Vien, Mike and Danette Stoks, David and Carrie Neubauer, Steve and Sue Altmann, and Tim Hegna; great-grandchildren Chad and Joel Stoks, Derek DeVos, Cole, Ross, and Anne Neubauer, Gunnar and Courtney Vien, and Chloe "Min," Paige, and Lanie Altmann; three step-grandsons and wives, three step-great-grandsons, two step-great-granddaughters, four great-great-granddaughters, one great-great-grandson, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three brothers, and one sister. Minnie will be missed.
