Obituary

Millard Cornelius Wallen, son of Helen (Christiansen) and Ole Valen, was born in Graettinger, Iowa, on the 20th day of February., 1902. He was baptized by Rev. J.D. Swalesteun. At the age of three years, he came with his parents to a farm near Clarkfield, where he resided until the time of his death. He was confirmed by Rev. C.J. Eastvold at the Israel Lutheran Church on October 31, 1915. On August 26th, 1930, he was united in marriage to Clara Emblem, Rev. P.O. Wee, officiating. To this union two children were born, namely, Verna (Mrs. Orlin Sundleee) and Ruth (Mrs. Elroy Brueas, Jr.) Mr. and Mrs. Wallen observed their silver wedding anniversary on August 21st of 1955. Mr. Wallen had been in failing health since April of this year and was taken to the Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis on July 4th where he submitted to surgery on July 11th. He returned home the 18th of July. On Saturday, August 18th at 12:10 p.m., at the age of 54 years, five months and 27 days, he passed quietly away. Millard was a deacon of Israel Church at the time of his death, and was active in church and community affairs. He was a kind, loving Christian husband and father. He endured much suffering but through it all was patient and cheerful. He expressed his readiness and willingness to be taken home to his Lord. He is survived by his wife, Clara, and two daughters, Verna and Ruth, and his sons-in-law, Orlin Sundlee and Elroy Bruess, Jr.; four grandchildren: Michael, Rebecca and Andrea Sundlee and Gregory Bruess; one sister, Mrs. Oscar Davidson of Sacred Heart, Minnesota, and two brothers, Orville of Minneota, Minnesota, and Alfred of Fargo, North Dakota.
