Mildred J. Strand was born on February 7, 1907 in Lisbon Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, to Halvor and Julia (Flaa) Iverson. She was baptized on March 3, 1907 and confirmed on June 19, 1921 at Bergen Lutheran Church of Stony Run Township. She attended grade school at District #12 of Yellow Medicine County, and high school in Montevideo. She also taught rural school. Mildred married Palmer C. Strand on August 26, 1934 in Yellow Medicine County. To this union two children were born: Paul and Janet. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church of Baxter, Our Savior's WELCA, and the Homemaker's Club. Palmer and Mildred lived on their farm until January of 1994 when they moved to Brookside Manor. Mildred passed away on Monday, February 6, 1995 at Brookside Manor in Montevideo at the age of 87 years, 11 months, and 30 days. She is survived by her husband, Palmer, and children: Paul and Lu Strand and Janet and David Gabrielson, eight Grandchildren, and 12 Great Grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters: Myrtle Mitlyng and Clarice Storlie and sister-in-law Katie Iverson and several nieces and nephews. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Harold Iverson.
