Mike Duane Schmitz was born December 5, 1963, in Brookings, South Dakota to Donald and Susan Kiehn Schmitz. He was baptized on January 24, 1965, at St. James Catholic Church in Dawson, Minnesota. He grew up in the Boyd, Minnesota area. Mike attended elementary school in Boyd, high school in Dawson and later earned his GED. Mike worked in construction and also with cement. He liked to carpenter and work on cars. He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, deer hunting, and water skiing. Mike died April 1, 1992, unexpectedly at home in Boyd at the age of 28 years. Mike is survived by his parents; daughter, Tiffany of Montevideo, Minnesota; sisters and brothers, Missy Hermanson and her husband Daryl of Boyd, Tim and his wife Stacy of Hanley Falls, Minnesota, Troy, Mandy, and Donald Jr. of Boyd; grandmother, Delia Schmitz of Boyd; aunts, uncles, nephews, and several cousins. Mike is preceded in death by his grandpa, John Schmitz and grandparents Carl and Gladys Kiehn; and one cousin, Billy Allen.
