Merlon L. Hoiland was born April 25, 1922, in Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, to parents Alfred and Martha (Ulfseth) Hoiland. He attended Country School. Merton married Marjorie Mueller in September of 1975. They attended St. Lucas Lutheran Church of Normania Township, Yellow Medicine County. Merton worked for many years as a truck driver and also worked on farms in Southern Minnesota and Iowa. He also worked for Yellow Medicine Co. Transportation Dept, retiring in 1983. Merton moved to Willow River, Minnesota, in January of 2001 with his nephew Larry and his wife and remained there until February 2002 when he moved to Pine Medical Care Center at Sandstone, Minnesota. He enjoyed watching TV and listening to music. He also enjoyed all of his nieces and nephews. Merton passed away on Thursday, June 9, 2005, at St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth, Minnesota, with his family at his side, at the age of 83 years, 1 month, and 15 days. He is survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Marjorie in 1986; three brothers: Clarence, Carles (Telmor), and Arden; and two sisters: Clenora Dahl and Murial Vinnece.
