Merriam Gifford Jorgenson was born in Clarkfield, Minnesota, on January 11, 1895, the son of Bernt and Ingeborg (Severts) Jorgenson. He was the youngest of five children. He was baptized into the Lutheran faith by Rev. O.C. Farseth and confirmed by Rev. O.T. Storaasli. He was a lifelong member of Clarkfield Lutheran Church. Following his education at the public schools in Clarkifeld, he became engaged in farming south of Clarkfield and continued until about two years ago when his health was failing. On February 14, 1924, he was united in marriage to Miss Martha Hoel. Three children were born to this union. Mr. Jorgenson passed away December 3, 1959, at his Clarkfield home, at 64 years of age. Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Myrna (Mrs. F.K. Smith) of Canton, New York, and Vivian (Mrs. J.A. Thompson) of Portland, Oregon; four grandchildren: Julie and David Smith and Eric and Brent Thompson; two brothers, John Jorgenson of Hazel Run and Marvin Jorgenson of Clarkfield; one sister, Mabel (Mrs. Fred O. Larson) of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and many other relatives and friends. His parents, one brother, Severt, and an infant son preceded him in death.
