Obituary

Merold S. Nelson, 76, of Hopkins, Minnesota, passed away at the Chapel View Care Center of Hopkins on Saturday, February 4, 1989. Funeral services for Merald Nelson were held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 7, 1989, from the Clarkfield Lutheran Church with Pastor Gordon A. Trelstad officiating. Organist was Karen Donner and vocal music was provided by Loren Norgaard. Burial was in the Clarkfield Lutheran Church Cemetery, Clarkfield, Minnesota. Serving as Casket Bearers were his grandsons, Chip Bazilian, Jay Hernandez, Allen and Loren Nelson, Mike, Rico and Tony Pelino and Mike and Tim Rolighed. Military rites were by the American Legion J. Ben Johnson Post #169, Clarkfield, Minnesota. Merold S. Nelson was born August 5, 1912, to Adolph and Mabel (Cliffgard) Nelson and was raised in the Clarkfield community. As a young man he was employed by Grinager's Grocery Store where he worked for many years. In 1934 Merold (better known as Bud) married Pearl Halvorson of Clarkfield. From this union there were four children, Merilyn, Sydney, Sarah and Dorothy. Bud spent one and one half years in active duty during WW II from 1944-1945. Bud was a school bus driver and a volunteer fireman for years. Leaving Clarkfield in 1956, Bud began working for Red Owl Company in Hopkins. After retiring from this position Bud and his wife enjoyed some travel and spending time at their cabin in Alexandria, Minnesota. Bud enjoyed fishing and just spending time outdoors. In passing he leaves his wife, Pearl Nelson of Hopkins; four children, Merilyn Pure of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Syd Nelson of Mora, Minnesota, Sarah Rolighed of Hopkins, and Dorothy Pelino of Hopkins; two brothers, Lloyd Nelson of Alexandria and Don Nelson of Clarkfield; three sisters, Abigail Wood of San Diego, California, Dora Hanson of Longville, Minnesota, and Diana Hanson of Clarkfield; and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Adolph and Mabel. Arrangements by Lynner Funeral Home Since 1891 Clarkfield Minnesota
