Melvin P. Schmitz, 52, of Boyd, died Thursday, December 2, 1993, at his residence in Boyd. Melvin Phillip Schmitz was born on April 10, 1941, to John and Delia (Oman) Schmitz in Slayton. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dundee. Melvin married Mary Robinson on May 19, 1959, in Montevideo. Melvin worked in the construction business and collected scrap iron to resalvage. Melvin is survived by his wife, Mary of Boyd; his children, Duane of Boyd, LaVonda Skaggs of Willmar, Danny (wife Shannon) of Boyd and Ricky (wife Tammy) of Montevideo; mother, Delia Schmitz of Boyd; four grandchildren; brothers, Leo (wife Wilma) of Boyd, Donald (wife Susan) of Boyd, LeRoy (wife Darlene) of Litchfield; sisters, Marcella (husband Jesse) Carey of Montevideo, Delores Barger of Brooklyn Center, Lillian (husband Gary) Bue of Pine City and their families. Melvin was preceded in death by his father, John Schmitz; nephews, Mike Schmitz and Billy Allen; one great nephew, Jason Oliver and one great niece, Danielle Schmitz.
