Obituary

Melvin Clarence Anderson was born April 5, 1905, in Swede Prairie Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. He was the fourth of five children born to Joseph and Anna (Pehrson) Anderson. He was married to Evelyn Sylvia Reese on March 6, 1948. They had two daughters. He was proceeded in death by his parents, a sister Lillie Lange and brothers Adolph and Alvin. He was a life long member of Swede Home Lutheran Church. For several years he was a board member. He served in the Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1945, refueling bombers in Savannah, Georgia. He was a member of J. Ben Johnson Post 169 of the American Legion, Clarkfield, Minnesota. He attended Dunwoody Institute for two years. Melvin lived his life in harmony with the rhythms of nature and Gods plan. To him the most important measure of time came not in hours and days but in seasons. Spring was time for planting. Summer was the time for growth. Autumn was harvest time. Winter was the time to prepare and plan. He was a farmer. The view of the world that he enjoyed most was that which could be seen from the seat of his tractor. He retired from active farming in 1968 and moved to Willmar, Minnesota, but his heart was still with the soil. Conversations with old friends were sure to start with talk of crops and weather. He died peacefully Wednesday, September 30, 1987 in Willmar. The legacy that he left to his family was a deep and abiding love for the land. For us, the relatives and friends of Melvin Anderson today is perhaps a sad day, a day for saying good-bye but for Melvin this is a homecoming. He is returning to the land that he worked and loved for 82 years.
