Melvin Anderson was born at Roslyn, South Dakota, on July 18, 1918, to parents Carl P. and Hilda (Berget) Anderson. He was born and raised on a farm near Roslyn where he lived until he entered the service on the 8th of July. Prior to his discharge on November 3, 1945, he served as a combat infantryman with Company L379 infantry in Rhineland, Northern France and Central Europe. While serving in the army, he earned the American theater medal, theater ribbon with three bronze service stars, good conduct and bronze star medal. On April 16, 1944, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Krause, also of Roslyn. Melvin and Dorothy farmed for 12 years in the same area prior to coming to Clarkfield, Minnesota, on October 1, 1957. Since living in Clarkfield, Melvin has been employed by the City of Clarkfield. Melvin passed away at the Clarkfield Community Hospital, Saturday evening, August 29, 1970, at the age of 52 years. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, and three children: Duane of Granite Falls, Minnesota, David who is serving in the U.S. Navy, and Carol (Mrs. Terry Holen) of Montevideo, Minnesota; and his only brother, Henry of Wilder, South Dakota. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Hilda Anderson.
