Obituary

Melvern G. Iverson, son of Gilbert and Charlotte (Johnson) Iverson, was born on the farm of his grandfather, Isaac Johnson, south of Hanley Falls, Minnesota, in Sandnes Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, on September 21, 1914. He was baptized on October 25, 1914 and confirmed on June 2, 1929, both at the Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church of Hanley Falls, Minnesota. Melvern attended school in Hanley Falls and graduated in 1935. On May 31, 1939, at Milbank, South Dakota, he was united in marriage to Lillian Kroger. Melvern worked for a year in the Hanley Falls Bottling Works and spent the next two years as owner in partnership of the Standard Oil Station. He purchased the grocery store in Hanley Falls in September of 1942 and operated it with his family until 1972 when he sold it to his son due to ill health. Since his heart attack in 1966, he did wood work in his spare time for the Courage Center. Melvern enjoyed photography, developing and printing pictures, as did his father. In March of 1990, Melvern became a resident of the Park View Care Center of Belview, Minnesota, where he remained for a short time. On January 30, 1991, at his home in Hanley Falls, Melvern passed away at the age of 76 years. Surviving Melvern are his wife, Lillian, and one son, Terry, both of Hanley Falls; and two sisters, Harriett Iverson of Granite Falls, Minnesota and Mildred Stevens of Hanley Falls. Melvern was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister.
