Obituary

Maye Thostenson was born June 7, 1904, Near Harmony, Minnesota in Fillmore County of parents Knute and Carrie (Hovey) Thostenson. She was baptized at Satersdal Luthean Church by Pastor Bue. When Maye was two years old, she moved with her parents to Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, where they lived on several different farms. Maye was a member of Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church, Hanley Falls, Minnesota, where she was confirmed July 8, 1918 by Pastor Ole Lokensgard, and had been a member except for 32 years when she was a member of Israel Lutheran Church of Swede Prairie Township, Yellow Medicine County. While at Israel Lutheran she taught Sunday School, was a member of Luther League, Ladies Aid and Circle. She worked many years as a clerk in Mork's Hardware of Clarkfield, Minnesota, and also as a cook in the school at Hanley Falls. She moved with her mother to Hanley Falls in 1965 and cared for her mother until her death in March of 1973. Maye died at the Granite Falls Municipal Hospital, Friday, November 3, 1989, after being under Hospice care at her home in Hanley Falls. Surviving Maye are three brothers, Clarence and Kennard Thostenson of Minneota, Minnesota, Gilbert Thostenson of Hanley Falls, and two sisters, Evalyn Rafson and Cora Kay Tollefson of Granite Falls. Maye was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Evelyn Thostenson and Gladys Nelson; and two brothers, Tebert and Vernon.
