Obituary

Mavis Eileen Diedrich was born at home near Bolan, Iowa, on August 14, 1925, to Arthur W. Diedrich and Mabel (Kenison) Diedrich. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She lived in Northwood, Iowa, until age four, when the family moved to Albert Lea, Minnesota. She attended Albert Lea Schools and graduated in 1943. After graduation she lived in Northwood, Minnesota, with her Grandma Diedrich and worked as a clerk at the Federated Department Store. She then followed her parents to Minneapolis, Minnesota, where she worked at Sears. The summer of 1944 she met Leo in Minneapolis, while he was on furlough from the Army Air Corp. They were married on May 18, 1947, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. Leo and Mavis made their first home in Selby, South Dakota, where she worked at the Walworth County Courthouse. In 1951 they moved to Clarkfield, Minnesota, started their family and she began working at Farmers and Merchants State Bank. She retired in 1985. Mavis loved her work, her church, her friends and her family. In her work she was always pleasant, helpful, capable and believed in the goodness of people. In her church she served as secretary, Sunday School teacher and an active WELCA member. She made many friends in Garden Club, bowling, Flying Club, Sewing Club and volunteering for Meals On Wheels. Mavis was always a willing and gracious hostess to all. Above all, she lovingly cared for her family and her very special grandsons. She is survived by her husband, Leo; daughters, Susan (John) Minor of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, and Charlann (Paul) Anspach of Clarkfield, Minnesota; and grandsons, Grant Minor of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, and Lance Wilson of Granite Falls, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her parents; infant brothers Gerald and Robert; and infant sister Betty. Mavis passed away at the Clarkfield Care Center, Tuesday, December 9, 2008, at the age of 83 years, after a long struggle with Alzheimers disease. Blessed be her memory.
