Maurice Clare Stevens was born September 26, 1913, to Carl A. and Mary (Gulickson) Stevens, in Sandnes Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota. He was baptized and confirmed at the Yellow Medicine Lutheran Church, Hanley Falls, Minnesota, by Rev. Ole Lokensgaard. Maurice attended rural school at Vineland and Hanley Falls Public School. He entered the U.S. Army in 1945 and was honorably discharged in 1946. During this time, he was trained and worked as a Surgical Nurse at Brooke Medical Center, West Point, New York. After his discharge he returned to the farm and worked at various jobs. In August of 1980, Maurice had a stroke and entered the Clarkfield Care Center. Later he spent several months at the Veterans Hospital at Sioux Falls, South Dakota, taking treatments for a malignancy of the lung. He returned to the Care Center and was there until entering the Clarkfield Hospital November 5, 1981. He passed away Sunday, November 8, 1981, at the age of 68 years. Maurice was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Virgil. He is survived by his brother, Roger (and wife Mary); nephew Ronald and niece Lisa; sister-in-law Mildred; foster sister Wilma (Mrs. James Bailey) of Arcadia, California and her family; and other relatives.
